Statement of the Belarusian Party of Greens on the results of elections to the House
Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on September 11
This year representatives of the Belarusian Party of Greens took an active part in the election campaign and put forward five candidates for deputy mandate in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus .
We did not expect the elections to be transparent, democratic and fair, because the authorities have not created conducive conditions for this.
The results of the elections were known in advance, as well as their procedure. Again majority of elected candidates are pro-government, voters turnout was low and usual for Belarusian election manipulation with ballot stuffing and vote count took place.
We appeal to the voters to emphasize that the purpose of the participation of candidates from our party in the elections was not for their legitimization. On the contrary, we aimed to demonstrate the facts of fraud, exposing injustice and humiliation of the citizen, which are held in Belarus under the name of "election".
We declare our non-recognition of the results of these elections, and we invoke observers, international organizations and the international community to give an objective assessment of what happened.
An important goal of our participation in the elections was to draw attention to the problem of the construction of the Ostrovets NPP. We have declared that this dangerous and economically unprofitable project should be terminated for Belarus.
This nuclear issue has become the basis of our cooperation with candidates from other parties. We have shown that we have common views on the development of Belarus and the ability to implement our programs together.
We have demonstrated an alternative, not only in the energy sector, but also in economics and politics. We have shown that in Belarus there are people who are able to act competently and responsibly, to solve the problem in modern, technologically advanced and consolidated way.
Yes, the authorities again have taken from us the elections, but we believe that those who came and voted for the "Greens" received an unambiguous signal of what the people of Belarus want. We are sure that they want a nuclear-free world and a safe, environmentally friendly development, to which the opposition and showed power.
Belarusian Party of Greens is preparing a report on the election campaigns of our candidates identified and documented violations and abuses of the authorities during the elections. In the coming days we are going to present a report and media observers, including international ones.
